Can you travel while pregnant?
If the pregnancy is normal and all the necessary precautions are observed, it is safe to travel. The ideal period is the second trimester. In most cases, there is no more morning sickness and no rapid fatigue as in the third trimester.
Before traveling, consult your doctor about the safety of traveling and how to protect yourself and your baby.
Whether you travel by car, train, or plane, do everything possible to make the trip as comfortable and safe as possible.
Travel by car, bus or train
- Make it a habit always to buckle up every time you drive or ride in a vehicle
- Always use them with both lap and shoulder belts to protect you and your child better
- Airbags can save lives and are essential car safety features, do not switch off them.
- Try to minimize the time spent in a sitting position. Try to be on the road no more than five to six hours
- Don't forget to stop for short walks to keep your normal blood circulating
Travel by plane
- Most airlines allow pregnant women to travel up to the eighth month of pregnancy. When it is the ninth month of your pregnancy, you may be asked for a doctor's permission.
- Due to the potential turbulence, hold onto the backs of the seats when moving around the plane.
- The International Air Transport Association recommends avoiding flights after the 37th week of your pregnancy (under the conditions of the standard course of pregnancy) and after the 32nd week of your pregnancy (in the case of the pregnancy with complications).
For maximum comfort during travel:
- Wear loose, comfortable clothes made of natural fabrics, as well as comfortable shoes
- Bring a pillow for comfort
- Plan enough rest stops
- Take snacks with you
- Do not forget to take your medical card with you
- Take all necessary safety measures
- Enjoy the journey
